Treasury has told Senate estimates that the financial services sector can expect a $780 million reduction in its regulatory burdens when 14 areas of law are reformed.
In response to a question on notice from Coalition finance spokesperson Senator Claire Chandler about deregulation and cutting compliance costs, Treasury lobbed several numbers.
It said there were 14 legislative reforms intended to reduce the cost of compliance by $780 million per annum.
“The estimates of burden reduction were undertaken by Treasury.
Treasury considered all 14 reforms would reduce regulatory burden but only quantified estimated reductions where sufficient information was available,” the response to Chandler’s question says.
