Google Cancels Standalone AI Studio Mobile App One Day Before Launch, Folds Into Gemini

Google canceled its standalone AI Studio mobile app for iOS and Android on July 31, just one day before its scheduled August 1 launch, despite roughly 800,000 people having pre-registered for it across more than 168 countries, opting instead to fold the app's core features directly into its main Gemini assistant.
App listings for AI Studio were pulled from both the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store following the announcement.
Google said it is now working with the Gemini app team to bring AI Studio's core capabilities, including app remixing, cross-device project syncing and a full build-test-publish development cycle, into the Gemini app across both mobile and desktop platforms.
Users who had pre-registered for the standalone app on either app store will not receive the product they signed up for; no payment was involved in the pre-registration process.
Continued monitoring of Google's broader AI product consolidation strategy, and how competitors positioning similar mobile AI development tools respond to Google's shift, are expected to remain relevant threads as the rollout continues.
