The Standard called in to speak with landlady Claire McCormick and her partner John Woodrow about settling into the city centre pub. The refurbishment, overseen by Punch Pub’s Unity Social concept, has seen changes to the interior, but retaining the site’s character remained a priority. “We’ve kept some of the original features like the fireplaces, and the bar, it’s a case of modernising certain elements but keeping the décor of a traditional pub.” Rachel Henry, senior operations manager for Unity Social, said: “We’re all about value and trying to bring a pub back into the community. “When you look at this pub, we’ve tried to enhance the look and feel of it, not strip the heart out of it.”
