ICE’s detained population has also held steady at roughly 68,000, suggesting deportations are not substantially outpacing new arrests.
Agents have recently averaged about 1,500 arrests and bookings a day, compared with a peak of approximately 1,900 under Noem.
Some Trump allies have claimed deportations are reaching record levels, but one person familiar with DHS arrest data disputed that characterization.
“Everyone is saying ‘it’s better than it was under Noem,’ but it’s not,” the person said.
