Patrick Yaroch faces charges of interstate transportation of stolen goods and receipt of stolen goods.
Investigators said Yaroch accessed FBI systems to obtain the keys needed to move cryptocurrency from the accounts, making as many as a dozen transfers worth a combined $925,426.07.
According to an FBI affidavit, Yaroch said he became “frustrated” that the bureau “could not or would not act against adversarial cryptocurrency accounts.”
He also submitted an internal FBI self-report and voluntarily met with officials at FBI headquarters, telling them he needed to disclose that he had “screwed up.”
“We hold our employees to the highest ethical standards, and this conduct is not tolerated at the FBI,” a spokesperson said.
