Since Alisa Stieg started as West Sedona School principal two years ago, she’s been tracking enrollment trends at her campus.
“If we just look at school year ’26 — the last year — 31 pre-K students entered, 17 kindergarten students entered, five first-grade [students] entered, six second-grade entered, six third-grade entered, five fourth-graders entered and seven fifth-graders entered,” Stieg said.
Sedona-Oak Creek School District overall, however, has seen declining enrollment for the past several years, with it budgeting for a drop of about 22 students for the coming school year.
“So … I want to be able to perhaps suggest a correlation: Does [the] extended day program contribute to enrollment at West Sedona School?”
Another benefit of the extended day, program Director Jessica Sweeney said, is that it makes early childhood intervention easier.
