Richard Beeby, brigade secretary of the Suffolk Fire Brigades Union, made a plea in an open letter to Prime Minister Andy Burnham after spending three days helping to battle the wildfire at Dunwich Heath. Suffolk currently has three Unimogs, off-road vehicles capable of spraying water while moving, but Mr Beeby said this is "not enough" to tackle large fires like the Dunwich Heath blaze which required 14 fire engines. “I've spoken directly with the Prime Minister about how government can continue to support Suffolk, both now and in the future. We welcome the opportunity to sit down with central government, Suffolk's local authorities, the Fire Brigades Union and national partners to discuss longer-term resilience and investment.
