UK weather: Where heavy rain and thunderstorms are most likely this weekAfter the driest July on record for England and Wales, the pattern finally begins to shift this week. However, while some areas face heavy rain, thunderstorms and localised flooding this week, others are set to remain frustratingly dry. Thunderstorm warnings in Scotland and Northern IrelandBy Tuesday afternoon, persistent rain across Northern Ireland and Scotland will gradually break up into heavy, thundery showers, with some of these reaching western England and Wales. Scotland remains the wettest part of the UK, with further rain and thunderstorms possible as a thunderstorm warning remains active, with showers and spells of rain also affecting parts of Northern Ireland, Wales and northern England. Parts of western Scotland could receive more than 100mm of rain, and over 50mm for parts of Northern Ireland, northern England and Wales.
