Three hundred couples in Nigeria's Kebbi State were married last week in a government-sponsored mass wedding that included both Muslim and Christian couples. Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Nasir Idris pledged that the annual program would continue throughout his administration. The governor described the initiative as an important social intervention aimed at reducing the financial burden associated with weddings for disadvantaged families. Unlike many government-backed mass weddings in northern Nigeria, Kebbi's program was designed to include qualified Christian couples alongside Muslims. At the ceremony, Idris also commended his wife, Hajiya Nafisa Idris, whose charitable foundation has played a leading role in organizing the annual event.
