The impressive numbers make the 2026 Oshana Open the largest Bank Windhoek Grand Prix event in the tournament’s history, officially surpassing previous participation benchmarks set in Swakopmund, Keetmanshoop, and Walvis Bay. The tournament brought together seasoned national contenders and emerging regional talent across the Open, Women’s, Junior and Cadet sections. Jakobus Greyling was recognised as the Best Local Player, highlighting the depth of homegrown talent in the Oshana Region. The success of the Oshana Open further reinforces the importance of sustained investment in chess development, especially at the grassroots and regional levels. Shilongo also expressed appreciation to the Oshana Gymnasium for hosting the event and to Benjamin Chikede, Chairperson of the Oshana Regional Chess Association, for his leadership in coordinating the tournament.
