The Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) has officially launched National Cancer Awareness Week, dedicating the first week of August to raising nationwide awareness, promoting early detection, and advocating for equitable care for those impacted by cancer across the country. Despite being one of the most preventable forms of cancer, cervical cancer remains widely misunderstood and continues to take a heavy toll on women across the nation. But Cervical Cancer remains one of Namibia’s biggest cancer challenges, despite many efforts.” They added that breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer, with approximately 701 new cases annually, ASR 59.2 per 100 000. They said the National Cancer Awareness Week should remind us that reducing cancer is a shared national responsibility; government, healthcare providers, educators, employers, community leaders, families and every Namibian all have a role to play.
