Rather than simply reviewing Korean Traditional Painting in Alter-age, we wanted to understand how the exhibition works from the inside out. Historically, Korean traditional painting was often categorised as “Oriental Painting.” Instead, we use Korean traditional painting or Hangukhwa, because these works have their own distinct history and characteristics. It’s important to recognise that Korean painting developed differently from Japanese painting rather than treating everything as one umbrella category.
