The 72nd Newport Jazz Festival was held from July 31 – August 2, 2026, at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, RI, featuring jazz, R&B, pop, and hip-hop performers on three stages as it continues to gear toward a younger audience. Playing with bassist Rahsaan Carter and drummer Kayvon Gordon, Fortner moved rather seamlessly between the electric piano and the Hammond B3. Billy Hart Quartet – Adoration from the audience was immediately evident in anticipation before NEA Jazz Master, drummer Billy Hart, hit the stage. Kamasi Washington and Chief Adjuah – Sonny Miles on a Trane — By many accounts, this was likely the Festival’s highlight act.
