The last time such an eclipse was visible from Barry was in 1999. Barry Astronomical Society has planned a gathering at Friar's Point, Barry Island, starting at 6pm, with the maximum eclipse set to occur at 7.13pm. The society has also distributed 250 pairs of solar eclipse glasses to Barry's four comprehensive schools and will have more than 400 pairs to give away for free at the event. Dr Jenifer Millard, an astrophysicist and honorary president of the Barry Astronomical Society, highlighted that solar eclipses are more than just a visual treat. She said: "With such a deep partial eclipse, there will be a chill in the air, and the sky will grow noticeably dark.
