An application has been lodged with Castle Point Council seeking prior approval to change the use of 211 London Road, Hadleigh, from commercial premises to residential use. The site was previously occupied by Lloyds Bank before the branch closed in 2022 as part of a wider programme of closures announced across the UK. The closure meant Hadleigh lost its last remaining bank, with customers directed to the nearest Lloyds branch in Rayleigh, around three miles away. “The proposal reuses an existing building efficiently, supports housing delivery objectives and occupies a sustainable location with access to public transport and services.” The submission comes just months after a new banking hub opened inside Hadleigh Library following years of campaigning by residents.
