Almost all organizations in the Philippines have reported one or more cybersecurity breaches in the past 12 months, with the lack of cybersecurity skills identified again as the top cause, according to a new report by cybersecurity firm Fortinet. The lack of cybersecurity skills was again cited as the top cause of cybersecurity breaches at 71%, marking the third consecutive year that it ranked as the leading factor, the report said. More than half of the respondents said they need senior-level cybersecurity talent (63%), but 55% said they struggle to secure approval to hire additional cybersecurity professionals. Organizations are also increasing investments in cybersecurity talent, with 96% preferring certified cybersecurity professionals, up from 82% last year. The 2026 Global Cybersecurity Skills Gap Report was based on a survey of 60 IT and cybersecurity decision-makers in the Philippines from various industries, including technology, manufacturing, and financial services.
