Barbeques Galore to live on following sale of brand to Melbourne wholesalerThe intellectual property, brand portfolio and wholesale inventory of Barbeques Galore have been sold to a Melbourne-based wholesaler, six months after the iconic Australian retailer fell into receivership.
The sale to ACOM International provides a way forward for the long-running Barbeques Galore brand; however, 62 company-owned stores have already closed.
ACOM International supplies camping, outdoor and military surplus items, making it a good match for Barbeques Galore, which specialises in barbeques, heaters and other outdoor products.
The new iteration of the Barbeques Galore business will be led by Mike Ainsworth, who has been appointed as CEO, along with members of the former Barbeques Galore product and wholesale teams.
However, that deal fell through following unsuccessful negotiations with some suppliers, and as a result, the 62 company-owned Barbeques Galore stores were earmarked for closure.
