Nelson Mandela Bay residents will begin paying lower electricity tariffs within the next 30 days after the Gqeberha High Court ordered the metro to restore its previous domestic electricity tariff structure pending the outcome of the main court challenge. The matter was concluded within minutes after the parties informed the court, they had reached agreement on the urgent relief sought, with Pakati making the agreement an order of court. The court ordered the municipality to obtain the necessary approval from the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) within 30 days, implement the revised tariff structure retrospectively from 1 July 2026, and credit affected customers for any overpayments within 30 days of implementation. Holding up a copy of the court order, Odendaal described the ruling as a victory for residents rather than his party. Executive Mayor Babalwa Lobishe said the municipality's priority was to protect residents while complying with the court order.
