The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality is set to begin rehabilitating and upgrading Mzamomhle Township's ageing sewer infrastructure in a bid to resolve longstanding sanitation challenges in the area.
Faku said the project marks the start of a critical intervention aimed at ending years of sewer spillages that have affected households in the township.
"For far too long, many of our residents have had to live with the inconvenience and health risks associated with sewer spillages.
As part of the project, the Mayor says they will also have to address illegal structures built over sewer servitudes and critical infrastructure corridors.
She urged residents to support the project, saying the municipality's goal is to build a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Mzamomhle where sewer spillages become a thing of the past.
