Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis gave a lesson in municipal government financing at the Probus Club meeting July 23 in the Gerry Masterson Centre. We apologize, but this video has failed to load. The city continues to be one of the fastest growing in Ontario, with population now approaching 60,000 and expected to exceed 70,000 within the next few years. Belleville’s large and growing industrial base is a godsend to taxpayers, covering a substantial portion of municipal costs. The city now has only seven acres of serviced industrial land available and has had to turn down two requests for 100 acre lots.
