Chicago writer, director and producer Miranda González said she jumped at the chance to direct “The River Bride,” written by Marisela Treviño Orta.
“The River Bride” is a play about love, but also regret.
The plot follows two sisters, Belmira (Ciclady Rodriguez) and Helena (Naijah Simon) in the days leading up to Belmira’s wedding.
Rodriguez said the cast spent time imagining the world, practicing character name pronunciations and even conducting outside research to better understand “The River Bride.”
Though in some ways she related more to Helena’s character, Rodriguez said she had to avoid judging her own character, Belmira.
