August 2, 2010, six teenagers from two families drowned in the Red River.
Warner’s sons Jamarcus and JaTavious, and daughter Takeitha, were among the six children that drowned in the Red River trying to save their cousin.
Eyewitnesses, including Maude Warner, described the scene as heartbreaking, with the teens shouting for help but unable to swim.
If you visit the Red River, especially in summer, local authorities and community groups emphasize the dangers of swimming in fast-moving water and the importance of learning to swim.
Maude Warner says none of the teens could swim and the Red River was too much for them.
