About 45 people asked to leave their homes due to a gas leak have been allowed to return. Cadent, the local gas emergency service, confirmed on Tuesday that residents were allowed to return home at about 20:30 and repairs were completed at 22:30. "Soon afterwards our emergency engineers arrived on site and were able to confirm a gas pipe had been damaged by contractors on a development site on Southend Road," they added.
