There's a fitting piece of history in that: it was at the World U20 Championships in Eugene in 2014 that McCartney won bronze and first announced herself on the world stage. It is a squad built around depth rather than one or two names, and most of these athletes will be making their World U20 debut. Maddie Waddell (400m) is one of our returning World U20 athletes and one to watch over the lap. Lining up among the world’s best U20 800m runners is a strong marker for where she is on her journey.
