The United States has released $600 million in previously frozen funding to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, reversing a decision announced by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in June 2025.
And the statement said the United States "will not provide U.S. Government funding to the World Health Organization through Gavi."
As Healio reported, the announcement stated that the United States no longer recommends any mercury-containing vaccines.
Measles outbreaks in the United States have repeatedly originated with importations from countries where coverage lapsed, and the current U.S. measles count has reached a 35-year high.
$600 million total, covering congressional appropriations of $300 million for each of fiscal years 2025 and 2026.
