HENDERSON, Texas — The 171st Anniversary East Texas Sacred Harp Convention will be held August 8–9, 2026, at the Henderson Civic Center in Henderson, Texas. The tradition takes its name from The Sacred Harp, a tunebook first published in 1844 that remains in use today. Once widespread throughout East Texas, Sacred Harp singers hosted large community conventions, including up to three-day gatherings that drew hundreds of singers and listeners. The East Texas Sacred Harp Convention continues this legacy by preserving a unique musical heritage and providing an opportunity to become a part of this powerful tradition. Loaner copies of the Sacred Harp tunebook will be available for those who do not have a book.
