From Monday, 17th August, rules around the validity of 16-17 Saver Railcards are being changed to bring them into line with other railcards. 16-17 Saver Railcards will now be valid for a full year from the date of purchase, instead of expiring when cardholders turn 18, as at present. The changes to the validity rules follow the government’s freezing of rail fares, the wider use of tap-in, tap-out technology, and the introduction of a £2 cap on bus fares recently announced by the Prime Minister. 16-17 Saver Railcards cost £35 for one year, and the new rules apply to railcards purchased on and after 17th August. These changes, as well as other changes to fares and ticketing, come ahead of the introduction of Great British Railways (GBR).
