AdvertisementCITY East councillors have called for monies generated by burial grounds in Limerick to be ringfenced for graveyard maintenance and improvement works. Councillors Elena Secas (IND), Joe Pond (FF), Peter Doyle (FG), Sean Hartigan (GP), and Ursula Gavan (IND) requested at the July plenary meeting that all net income generated from burial grounds across the city and county is ringfenced specifically for graveyard maintenance and improvement works. Cllr Joe Pond said the motion was looking to ensure that the money generated by burial grounds stays with burial grounds. A second 160 unit columbarium wall is planned for Kilmurry graveyard. Niches cannot be booked until the need arises in order to avoid niches being purchased and not used.”
