The brainchild of renowned pianist Barry Douglas, Camerata Ireland has performed around the world. Now, ahead of the Clandeboye Festival, Belfast-born Douglas shares his passion for music and explains how the signing of the Belfast Agreement in 1998 inspired him to create Camerata Ireland. I came up with the idea to create an orchestra made up of young musicians from all over the island, and Camerata Ireland was born. In 2001, with the support of his friend Lady Dufferin, Douglas founded the Clandeboye Festival, which he describes as Camerata Ireland’s spiritual home.
