August 4 1976Fritz Lang, one of the great directors of movie history, has died at his home in Los Angeles. Austrian-born Lang was responsible for two of the great classics of the golden age of the German cinema, “Metropolis” and “M”. A retrospective of 40 years of Lang films was held at the Munich Museum last year. A pioneer in the dramatic use of sound, Lang was known for his crisp inventive pictorial style. Pioneering film maker Fritz Lang was most well-known for his earlier movies M and Metropolis.
