James O'NeillHis blue plaque will be unveiled outside Kellys Cellar’s pub in Belfast’s Bank Street on Tuesday morning.
James O’Neill transcribed tunes that he heard from other Irish migrants after he arrived in Illinois’s largest city to work the beat.
The song was ‘The Mills are Grinding’, which remains a popular reel thanks to being included in O’Neill’s Music of Ireland, which Francis and James published in 1903.
Vice-chair Eibhlin Mac Aoidh said: “James O’Neill learnt and played traditional tunes in Belfast.
“The Ulster History Circle is delighted to commemorate James O’Neill’s contribution to the music being played in Belfast this week at the Fleadh.”
