Echo reader dials 999 on neighbour's barbecue - Letters to the Editor

Not so with one of my neighbours - but when I contacted the 999 emergency 'helplines' to alert them to the wildfire risks, I was informed that people are 'entitled' to light barbecues whenever and wherever they liked.
I must appeal to the media to publicise and promote some positive action to stop stupid people starting unnecessary barbecues, given that so-called public authorities cannot see fit to issue sensible advice to members of the public to refrain from lighting fires.
Who wants unnecessary wildfires nowadays, with attendant nonsensical risks involved, we must wonder.
I despair, before we all go up in flames.
