From August 17, the 16-17 Saver Railcard will be valid for a full year from the date of purchase, even if the holder turns 18 during that time. This change means the railcard will no longer expire on a user’s 18th birthday. Currently, more than 70,000 students miss out on an average of £175 in potential savings each year under the existing rules. Ms Ahmad said: "The 16-17 Saver is essential for young people reliant on trains to get to college, work or training. "Allowing young people to access the savings past their 18th birthday will ease the financial pressures that commuting brings."
