The OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana applauded OR Tambo police for their continued efforts in fighting proliferation of illegal/unlicensed firearms as they yet recovered two unlicensed firearms in Mtontsasa, Flagstaff and Mthatha on different days. The unlicensed firearm had seven (07) live rounds of ammunition. He had no lawful documental proof of ownership and was arrested on the spot. In another unrelated incident in Mthatha, on Friday, 31 July 2026, at about 17:30, an intelligence-driven operation by Mthatha Crime Intelligence and K9 members resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old male suspect in Chris Hani Section C for unlawful possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol (erased serial number) with 34 live rounds of ammunition. The duo is to appear before Magistrate Courts of their jurisdiction facing their respective charges on Monday, 03 Aigust 2026.
