ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Albuquerque Community Safety Department says its free Summer of Nonviolence field days keep kids active and connected during the summer through sports. Last week, baseball took center field at Los Altos Park as local mentors with the Summer of Nonviolence initiative worked with young players and encouraged them as they learned. Volcano Vista sophomore Jackson Mangrum said he started playing baseball when he was around the same age as the kids at the field day. Valley High School varsity assistant softball coach Mariana Roybal said kids can join whether they are new to the sport or already have experience. “You can be out here and you just heard of the camp, your parents just put you in it–or you can have all the skills all the way up to club and highschool,” said Mariana Roybal.
