Power outages, fires, and home damages plagued Bethesda on Sunday after significant storms pummeled the area. Around 5 p.m. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a tree struck by lightning. When MCFRS arrived at the scene at the 6300 block of Avalon Drive between Newburn Drive and Massachusetts Avenue, they found multiple power lines and a utility pole damaged. According to Pete Piringer, a large tree fell onto the pole and wires before catching on fire. This resulted in power outages throughout the neighborhood.
