Oxygen levels in the water were already lower than normal due to low water levels because of the drought. This, combined with the already low river levels and soaring summer temperatures, has created difficult conditions for the fish to survive on. "This coincided with low river flows and high temperatures, significantly reducing the amount of oxygen in the water the fish need to survive. We continue to work closely with the Environment Agency and other partners to monitor the situation and support the river's recovery."
