Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) completed its full $50 billion OpenAI investment and built a roughly 5% stake, the Financial Times reported on July 31. The companies also expanded an existing $38 billion AWS agreement by $100 billion over eight years. Amazon (AMZN) Paid $50 Billion for OpenAI. It remains the primary cloud partner; OpenAI products will ship first on Azure when Microsoft can support them, and Microsoft retains a non-exclusive license to OpenAI models and products through 2032. Microsoft remains the safer stock because it kept first distribution, long-dated IP rights, and stronger free-cash-flow economics without writing the $50 billion check.
