Essex police said that in April, Kenneth Grenier, 26, of Hyde Park, reported getting harassing texts targeting his production of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at the Essex Community Players.
Those threatening messages caused the production to shut down.
Police said they have since identified the sender of those messages as Grenier himself.
Investigators said he admitted to faking the texts to himself to create an excuse to leave the production.
