Metro Trains crews have uncovered the cause of tonight’s cancellations on the Mernda and Hurstbridge lines: a deliberately cut cable at Clifton Hill. While investigations are in their early stages, a spokesperson said it was believed the cable vandalised was made of copper. A spokesperson said the Hurstbridge and Mernda lines were due to resume in the next 30-60 minutes. They said that Metro would likely be in touch with police to continue investigations after replacing the cable. (Note: V/Line tells us this is related to the earlier track fault that cancelled trains between Watergardens and Sunbury)
