IPSF: Sprinkler/evaporative cooling systems Combining sprinklers with evaporative cooling can reduce water consumption4 August 2026 4 August 2026 1 minute read 1 minute read By: By: Chris Wright North America[Excerpts of a poster presentation from the 2026 International Poultry Scientific Forum]Poultry production is a top US agricultural commodity but faces challenges from rising protein demand and climate-related stressors.
Conventional evaporative cool-cell systems manage heat but use large amounts of water and often raise humidity above 80%, limiting birds’ ability to cool through respiration.
The evaporative cool-cell treatment followed standard evaporative thresholds.
The combination treatment trended with a 39% reduction in cooling-water usage compared to the cool-cell treatment (63,696 vs.105,091 gallons).
Results indicate that combining sprinklers with evaporative cooling can maintain broiler comfort and performance while drastically reducing cooling-water consumption in real world applications, without creating adverse effects on the house environment.
