The inquest into the death of Robert Webster in Melksham was opened on July 3 of this year following his death on June 17. After being pulled out of his home, the retired Detective Chief Inspector was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. At the opening of the inquest, the coroner’s court heard that Mr Webster had awoken to find the fire already burning. After he was pulled from the house and treated by paramedics, Mr Webster was rushed to the burns unit Southmead Hospital in Bristol. Despite the efforts of healthcare workers, Mr Webster died at hospital a day after the blaze.
