A police decision to drop an investigation into alleged hate speech by MP Filip Turek of the Motorists party is now legally binding, Prague prosecutors said on Monday. The supervising prosecutor said some of the social media posts did not constitute a criminal offence, while others did, but were published more than five years ago and are therefore barred by the statute of limitations. Police also concluded that Turek had authored the posts. The case concerns dozens of racist, sexist and other hateful comments on Turek's social media accounts, mainly Facebook, uncovered by Deník N after his election to parliament. Turek apologised for the remarks but denied writing some of the posts.
