(Bloomberg) -- The US Treasury Department was sued by a nonprofit group claiming the government is improperly withholding legal settlements that the Trump administration could use to cover payouts to pardoned Jan. 6 defendants and other supporters of the president.
The law setting up the Judgment Fund requires Treasury to publicly identify claimants, their lawyers and a summary of the facts underlying allegations that have been settled, according to CREW.
The Justice Department, Treasury Department and Treasury's Bureau of the Fiscal Service didn't immediately respond to emails seeking comment on the suit.
The group pointed to what it called "efforts to manipulate the judicial process for the enrichment of the president's political allies."
The case is Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, 26-cv-02728, US District Court, District of Columbia (Washington).
