As I recall, there were snow flurries, not unusual for May in Casper, Wyoming. He and a high school friend spent two summers during college driving combines in wheat fields from Oklahoma to Canada. By junior high, Dave was politically the most conservative guy I knew and in Wyoming, the reddest state in the country, that is saying a lot. Dave and I had to walk about a mile from his house to junior high and high school, a hike taken up talking about girls, math and politics, among other things. Many of us will miss Dave, especially in these splintered times.
