Cash-strapped Warrington Borough Council is proposing the closure of Stockton Heath community recycling centre, with a consultation now closed. Warrington has three recycling centres – one on Sandy Lane in Stockton Heath, Gatewarth in Sankey Bridges, and another on New Cut Lane in Woolston. The Labour-run council considers that Stockton Heath tip ‘does not present the best customer experience’. As part of the consultation, residents launched a petition against the proposed closure of Stockton Heath Community Recycling Centre. The official petition launched on the council’s website secured 858 signatures from Warrington residents in less than nine days.
