The disruption was caused by a faulty level crossing between Cardiff Central and Bridgend and a fire that damaged rail infrastructure between Cardiff and Newport. Transport for Wales confirmed that services were returning to normal by Monday afternoon, but warned of continued impact into Tuesday and Wednesday. TfW accepted tickets on Great Western Railway services by any reasonable route, and on CrossCountry services between Cardiff Central and Cheltenham Spa at no extra cost. Trainline said: "The Riverside and Penarth Road car parks at Cardiff Central are now permanently closed. "Please use the Cardiff Central Quay multi-storey (Penarth Road) for parking, pick-up and drop-off.
