Run by Darlington Cares, the shop is based on the ground floor of the Feethams car park, opposite the back of Boyes. It collects donations of unwanted school uniforms, has them professionally cleaned, and gives them away for free to anyone who needs them. Councillor Jim Garner, Darlington Council’s cabinet member for stronger communities, said: "The uniform shop is a great service that has been going from strength to strength. Since launching six years ago, the shop has provided almost 50,000 items of school uniform to families and has diverted more than 22 tonnes of uniform from landfill. Donations of clean, gently used school uniforms can be dropped off at several locations, including the Uniform Scheme Shop at Feethams during opening hours.
