After a tense night on the slopes of Table Mountain, firefighters have gained the upper hand on a wildfire that sent thick smoke drifting across parts of Cape Town and forced the closure of Tafelberg Road and nearby hiking trails, Cape {town} Etc reports. The fire, which started above Tafelberg Road on Sunday (2 August), drew a large emergency response involving the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service, SANParks and Volunteer Wildfire Services. ‘The fire that started yesterday on Table Mountain above Tafelberg Road has burned itself out.’ Despite the dramatic smoke visible from several parts of Cape Town, authorities say there were no reports of injuries, evacuations or damage to homes.
