The City of St. Catharines, Ont., has declared a state of emergency after two extreme rainstorms in less than a week triggered widespread flooding, overwhelmed municipal infrastructure and caused significant damage to homes, businesses and public property.
According to a news release from the city, more than 140 millimetres of rain fell across parts of St. Catharines during storms on July 27 and 28, and again on Aug. 2.
Siscoe calls on province, feds for helpOn Sunday, Siscoe called on the federal and provincial governments in a social media video to provide disaster relief assistance to St. Catharines.
Michael Minzak said the province also got a request for assistance from St. Catharines related to the flooding and said the Ministry of Emergency Preparedness and Response is looking into it.
Emergency operations centre activatedThe city's emergency operations centre has remained activated since last Tuesday to co-ordinate emergency response, prioritize resources and oversee recovery efforts.
